Shagbark Hickory Lavender Soap
A Turkeywoods Farm staple and one of our most distinctive handcrafted soaps.
Our Shagbark Hickory Soap begins with an infusion made from shagbark hickory gathered from trees growing naturally on our Connecticut farm. Shagbark hickory has a long history of traditional use among Native American peoples. The bark was prepared as a tea and was also applied in poultices to treat sore muscles and arthritis.
Inspired by this history, we invented Shagbark Hickory Soap, combining a shagbark aqueous infusion with olive, coconut, palm, castor, and sweet almond oils using a traditional saponification process. The result is a substantial, long-lasting bar with a rich lather that cleanses gently while leaving skin feeling soft and conditioned.
The distinctive bark of mature shagbark hickory trees naturally separates and sheds from the tree, where it is then foraged. Lavender essential oil gives the finished soap a clean, relaxing botanical fragrance.

Our Process
Quality and chemistry are at the heart of Turkeywoods Farm soapmaking. Our process is informed by decades of experience in organic and medicinal chemistry and an eye for the aesthetics.
We gather naturally shedding shagbark hickory from trees growing on our farm in the Mystic/Groton area of Connecticut and use it to prepare the infusion that gives Shagbark Soap its distinctive character.
Olive and sweet almond oils contribute conditioning qualities; coconut oil provides cleansing and abundant lather; palm oil helps create a firm, long-lasting bar; and castor oil contributes to a rich, creamy lather. Lavender essential oil finishes the soap with its classic botanical fragrance.
