Tick Me Off Tick Repellent Soap
Tick Me Off Tick Repellent Soap is a Turkeywoods Farm original, formulated in Connecticut by a Ph.D. pharmaceutical chemist with more than 30 years of experience in organic and medicinal chemistry.
Each bar is handmade and individually shrink-wrapped for protection during fishing, hiking, camping, gardening, and other outdoor activities. The green accents and textured top reflect the handmade nature of the soap and our appreciation for the outdoors. Because every batch is made by hand, appearance naturally varies from bar to bar. Regardless of appearance, every bar contains the same essential oils at the same percentages.
Why a tick soap?
Ticks are vectors of several important human and animal diseases, including Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Tick bites are also associated with alpha-gal syndrome, a potentially serious allergy to mammalian meat and other mammalian-derived products. Research has demonstrated repellent activity for a variety of plant essential oils against ticks and other arthropods. Tick Me Off was developed with this research in mind, combining traditional soapmaking with selected botanical ingredients.
The soap begins with a mugwort infusion prepared from plants harvested at Turkeywoods Farm. We combine this with citronella, thyme, lavender, and geranium essential oils to produce a pleasantly aromatic soap designed for use after time spent outdoors.
How to use it
Ticks can remain unnoticed on the body, beneath clothing, or in the hair after outdoor exposure. Showering soon after returning indoors is recommended as one measure for finding and removing unattached ticks. Tick Me Off is designed specifically for this post-outdoor shower and can be used on both the body and hair.
It is also an excellent everyday soap. The olive, coconut, palm, sweet almond, and castor oils produce a rich lather, while the botanical essential oils give the soap its distinctive, fresh herbal fragrance. Many of our customers use Tick Me Off simply because they enjoy the soap and its scent.
Ingredients: Olive oil (30%), palm oil (30%), coconut oil (30%), sweet almond oil (2.5%), castor oil (2.5%), citronella essential oil (2.3%), lavender essential oil (1.0%), thyme essential oil (0.6%), and geranium essential oil (0.1%).
Tick Me Off is formulated using active ingredients permitted for use in minimum-risk pesticide products exempt from federal registration under FIFRA, subject to the requirements of 40 CFR §152.25(f).
